An AA woman tells it like it is

These 3 comment are by the same person, and were left somewhere other than EP. They give a quick analysis of the very troubled relations between the genders in the AA community.

"...we have a subculture of black men who truly believe it's the black woman's responsibility to raise Black America. This group (not all black men, mind you, just a certain vocal group) truly do not like black women, they see black women as completely flawed and they refuse to marry black women [because, ya know, black women all have "issues," nasty "attitudes," refuse to submit (a favorite) and so on]. In their minds, black men have their acts together and are worthy of only the most stunning women (she must be gorgeous, looks are everything to this man, and very submissive yet make a good living with benefits... but not think that she does). It's a non-issue if he didn't finish school, learn a trade or end up with a good, steady job because white men give all the good jobs to uppity black women who don't respect him. In a nutshell, the black man is golden and the black woman (who is working hard and raising children) is not worth anything. Oh. Oh. When a black woman dares to express an honest view -- one that doesn't involve singing his praises and bowing down to him from head to toe --- she is a "b..." a "h..." and any other profane word he can come up with at that very moment.  Robin, you've step into a raging war without knowing it... This is black male/black female "love" in 2014 America and it's not pretty."

"We all bring our own perspectives to the table. For me, it's about the future of Black America, as I have known it.  Well-rounded youth don't always but often come from two-parent, financially stable homes and/or communities that value intact family units.
"In the African-American community, we now have children coming into the world to a poor, under-educated, young single mom who herself was raised by the same.
The men aren't present and they don't see that they should be. For instance, you often hear of black men who have fathered a child and left behind a child (or two)  talk publically about how "these black women need to do a better job of raising these bad children." These types are extremely misogynistic too.
"To be fair, many of these young woman are, indeed, loud, overweight. and clueless about healthy relationships. I do understand why some men do not find them desirable as future wives. (But what they deny is they aren't really desirable as husbands -- sagging pants, angry, violent and with no job or career future to provide for a family).
"The situation I describe is what you produce when you reproduce without any planning for truly committing to marriage and raising a healthy individual who can contribute positively to society and the future.
"[For the record: I support gay two-parent homes, white adoptive parents, financially-secure, mature single black women choosing to have a child when she sees no option for husband options on the horizon. Peace and thanks for you strength and confidence as a woman of other "race" speaking on this extremely serious topic in my community]"

"What is so ironic is that I work for the City of Atlanta and some of the most level-headed, wise, kind leaders there are black women. In the law department alone, there are 50 lawyers -- white, black, Asian, male, female... -- and all have to answer legal questions all day long in committee meetings. The most informed, articulate, wise, have-done-the homework of them? Not always but often a black female. The same is true in soooooooooo many other settings.
"Yet a growing "movement" of enraged black men -- ostensibly just communicating to the world the "issues" and "attitudes" of black women -- would have you think all black women are loud, mean, sexually irresponsible, haters of black men (sooo not true, we praise them more than any group!) and anything else negative. This is one of the most disturbing trends I see in this society because it's coming from men in our own image."

More on why I disagree with radical feminism

"Feminism is the belief that women and men are currently not equal".

The inequality does not always favour men. And inequalities of education, income wealth and race are also very strong. I am of the view that in western democracies, these inequalities are much more important than those arising from gender alone. And the existence of a social inequality in no way shows what, if anything, can be done to alleviate it. Thinking about gender inequality requires a very careful understanding of social psychology, the social nature of notions of right and wrong, and of economics, especially of the employment relation.

The fundamental problem with what Sommers calls gender feminism, is that it has failed to understand means and ends in social change, esp. the economic underpinnings of the world we live in. That failure to understand means that the only way the radfem dream can come true, is by authoritarian methods including political violence. Radfem is another flavour of the Marxist revolutionary project.

Last century, there was an ample body of revolutionary feminist writing that went undenounced. I do not believe that a truly "equal" society is achievable, if human rights, due process, the rule of law, and democratic deliberation are all fully respected. It is better to leave certain inequalities alone, rather than try to use public policy to stamp them out. Of only one thing I am certain: the rapid advance of scientific knowledge has put the entire human condition on fast forward. We live in an era of rapid and unexpected social change. Many social evils of the past have been overtaken by events, while a host of new evils have sprung up. Feminist reflection has not contributed to a better understanding of this situation.

Mallory Millet airs the dirty linen about her tyrannical sister Kate

I have copied this experience to here, because EP has been censoring of late my anti-feminist experiences. EP has never censored this blog.

*******************************************************
Front Page is owned by David Horowitz, a red diaper baby turned 1960s radical turned neocon. I do not always agree with the neocons, such as their fear and loathing of Islam and their unconditional support for Israel.

Kate Millet was one of the hard core 20th century radfems. Her book Sexual Politics made waves 35-45 years ago, and was much assigned in college classes. Around 1990, she published a memoir revealing mental health issues, and very quickly her name disappeared from the Atlantic Monthly, the New Republic and the New York Times. Millet is now 80. Very recently, her younger sister Mallory decided to air the family dirty linen, and to out Kate as a totalitarian nut case. The link splendidly confirms what I have been saying since the 1970s, that radfem is a totalitarian movement, whose wishes cannot come true without great political violence. I have also wisecracked for many years that radfem is "Marxism applied to the genitalia".

See the link in the first comment below.

There is a germ of truth to Marxism, namely social and political conflict grounded in the envy of some of the real and imagined economic well being of others.  Classes are real, as is class conflict. Where Marxism went wrong is arguing that the outcome of the class struggle is foreordained, and that government ownership of a nation's physical capital would make most of us better off. 20th century history taught us that capitalism is always reinventing itself, while Communism is incapable of innovating except in showcase projects such as nuclear weapons and space exploration. I love the fact that the Russians could build a space station in orbit around the earth, but not a comfortable bra.

Likewise, there is a germ of truth to radfem, namely that the Industrial Revolution privileged economic activity which men are willing to do and that women prefer to avoid: mines and factories and engineering. The Industrial Revolution put at centre stage physics, chemistry, and engineering, intellectual domains which most women shy away from. This situation privileged males at marginalised women. Radfem went wrong in failing to note that their discontent was grounded in the Industrial Revolution, and that that Revolution died over the course of the second half of the 20th century.  Since 1956, a majority of American employees work in services. The share of mines and manufacturing in total employment has steadily declined. The North Atlantic economy is more and more based on the processing of ideas and on human interaction, activities at which many women excel. The willingness to work dirty sweaty jobs of the sort that women disdain, is far less important than used to be the case.
